After 35 separate reports of phone batteries catching fire, Samsung is recalling millions of Galaxy Note 7s, and the FAA is warning travelers against using them on planes.
Several international airlines including Singapore Airlines, Qantas, and Virgin Australia have taken the FAA’s new warning to heart and prohibited passengers from using their Note 7s on board.
“In light of recent incidents and concerns raised by Samsung about its Galaxy Note 7 devices, the Federal Aviation Administration strongly advises passengers not to turn on or charge these devices on board aircraft and not to stow them in any checked baggage,” the FAA announced on its website.
Is it okay to bring my Note 7 on a plane if I don’t use it?
You should still be able to bring your Note 7 with you on a plane trip so long as you adhere to the FAA’s advisement not to use or charge the device or stow it in checked baggage . However, on airlines that have banned the Note 7 entirely, you won’t even be able to board the plan with it turned off. Make sure you check with the airlines directly before checking in.
