Many of us realize today is Veterans Day, but few of us know the real history behind this holiday. It started in 1918, on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month. After four years of bitter war, the world rejoiced and celebrated the Allied powers’ cease-fire agreement (armistice) with Germany. It brought World War I, then known as “the Great War,” to a close. November 11, 1919 was set aside as Armistice Day in the United States, to remember the sacrifices that men and women made during World War I in order to ensure a lasting peace.
On Armistice Day, soldiers who survived the war marched in a parade through their home towns. Politicians and veteran officers gave speeches and held ceremonies of thanks for the peace they had won.
Today is set aside to thank soldiers around the world for their service and sacrifice, so from all of us to all of you, THANK YOU. A thank you for the peace you bring, the sacrifice of time, of body and mind, the time you spent away from family and country, and for all that you stand for. Many did not return home to parades, ceremonies, or football stadiums exploding in cheers, but we remember you. Every day we experience freedom and reap the benefits of your sacrifice, and we want you to know our gratitude for you and your service is enormous.
Benoic Ventures and all its staff salute all veterans, worldwide.
