Experience Grand Canyon South Rim

The next time you’re in Las Vegas, set one morning aside to wake with the sun and climb aboard a bus bound for wonder at nearby Grand Canyon National Park.

You and your Canyon caravan – including an expert tour guide – will depart your hotel at 6 a.m. and head for Boulder City. Initially founded to house Hoover Dam builders, Vegas’ itty-bitty sister city is now a breath of wholesome small town air just a hop and a skip from the world’s gambling mecca. As you ramble onward, you’ll cross the dam’s brand new overpass and encounter gorgeous views of Lake Mead, Colorado River, and of course, the concrete colossus Hoover Dam.

Your talented guide will provide historical background and fun facts throughout the journey and answer any and all of your dam questions during a 20-minute photo stop at one of the dam’s incredible vantage points. From Hoover Dam, you’ll roll onward to Arizona, where you’ll make another late-afternoon stop at the Grand Hotel for a complimentary buffet lunch before entering Grand Canyon National Park.

36558635Your first stop at the park is Mather Point, where you’ll experience breathtaking panoramic views of the canyon. Now, I’m not prone to crying over rock formations, but I strongly recommend bringing a hanky along — this view is incredible to the point of tears. After you’ve had ample opportunity to snap some pictures, your guide will take you to Bright Angel Point for a chance to explore canyon paths and stop for java chip ice cream at Bright Angel Lodge’s beloved Dreyer’s ice cream parlor.
